Encounter Place Vendôme is from the exhibition An American in Paris produced exclusively for Black Flag Art. In the spirit of Richard Avedon’s penetrating eye, this series of AI photographs captures modern-day Paris through its visitors, the pilgrims, the seekers of something they’ve seen a thousand times before arriving. Avedon stripped away context to reveal essence. Here, Paris becomes both monument and mirror. These images ask: What happens when Avedon’s ruthless elegance meets the beautiful chaos of people trying to have the experience they came for? An American in Paris explores the collision between expectation and reality, between the mythic city and the lived one; pilgrimage and disappointment, wonder and weariness, the strange democracy of being a stranger in the most photographed city on earth. The Secretary Bird is part of a series of photographs on the City of London produced exclusively for Black Flag Art. A series that captures the City of London as an ecosystem unto itself, a territory where ancient rituals of power, money, and ambition play out against Portland stone and glass. Through the lens of high fashion AI photography, this City of London Safari series reimagines the Square Mile as hunting ground and habitat. The calculated grace of the leopard, the predatory focus of the secretary bird – move through London Wall, Threadneedle Street, Paternoster Square and the shadows of the Gherkin. The AI becomes a collaborator in rendering what is lived and thought but not always seen. The work doesn’t celebrate or condemn – it observes.
